President Obama was sworn in as the fourtyfourth President of the United States. During his speech I asked you to take your journals and write down anything that was meaningful to your life.
The following are some words and ideas taken from the President's speech that were meaningful to me:
Humble, grateful, mindful...
Bigger than the sum of our individual ambitions...
Harness the wind and the sun to fuel our nation...
Find meaning in something greater than themselves...
These things are old, these things are true...
The price and promise of citizenship...
We will be remembered by what we build not what we destroy...
Students please write down some of your thoughts and post them on our blog.
Keep in mind:
powerful words that were used in the speech...
ideas that were pointed towards the future of America...
ideas that bind us as one people called to work together to rebuild...
your opinions of where we as a nation are headed...

I was thinking how amazing it is that a African American is president, when not a long time ago they were slaves and were treated like they weren't people. I think our nation is headed in the right direction. My favorite part of the presidents speech was when he was talking about how that we will remeber what is built not what we destroy.
i love that are country has changed, and i hope for the better.i think that we will head in a good direction with Mr. Obama as president.
i think that the words humble, grateful, and mindful all fit Mr. Obama and his lifestyle.
mr. obama showed me that if you try hard enough you can acomplish anything, like being presedent of the united states.
Today was a day in history and for us to be there to watch it was truly amazing. One of the things that i really respected was the way he spoke. His words just flew out of his mouth and i think all that he said he was going to do is really going to happen. His eyes showed trust and is face showed respect to us. one thing that i think he said that was just AMAZING was' "60 years ago my people had bruised hands just to live their life they were slaves to the whites" and now he is on the top of the united states of america and if you could just think about our history in 60 years, America has become a better place. He said that all of the challenges we face are difficult and even though every one of them are going to take a long time, he is going to try his hardest to make sure these challenges are over so we can live freely.
During president Barrak Obama's speeech he talks about war and troubled times among the United States. He said that we have the choice and the power to stop this. To stop the wars, to stop the financial troubles, and to leave a better future for our children.
These words were meaningful to me because there is now much hope for this nation to be brought to peace, and to be filled with love and gratitude.
I think this is what he said. "if the answer is yes, then we will be moving forward, if the answer is no then jobs will crumble and we will leave behind all we have wrecked"
I think it is an amazing and wonderful thing that we have a Black presedent. I also truly believe that he is going to bring us along the right path. My favorite part of the speech was when he said "These things are old, these things are true" and "We will harness the wind and the sun to fuel or nation!"
I think that it is great that we have our first African American president. I think that the fact that he is African American president is great but in my opinion he is the president we need right know and it is not because of the color of his skin. He is the president because we need because he shows leadership, detemination, knowledge, and he will show America the way out of hard times. In his speech he said "We have learned from segragation and the Civil War what hard times are. We will change america like we had done in those hard times." That is what I think got him where he stands today.

President Obama's speech really got me thinking aboutthings I havent thought about for a while. Like how many years ago African-Americans suffered through slavery and poverty. It kinda makes me proud because the African-Americans came a long way. Also, I thought about how people are thinking "Oh having a black president is so amazing and historic!" I agree, but it's not the color of his skin, it's about how he changes the USA. Leah #5
Acrostic:
In the past, the presidents were elected one white man after another,
Not once has an African-American taken office, but
After 43 different elections, after 43 different presidents, one man will
Undoubtedly make history. One man named Obama.
Good will come in the world, whether it is he who leads them on, or
Us finally realizing that we have to be the change we want.
Realizing that we still have a chance to make it
All better. Nobody knows if he will be great, but time will surely
Tell us. Suspense is what keeps us alive, if we knew everything, what
Is the point of living? Today we welcomed someone new to
Office, and forever this day will be remembered,
Never to be forgotten in all the years to come.
