1. He arrived on the date that the god was supposed to return to reclaim the throme.
2. There still might of been a chance that he was a god.
3. He was confused beacuse of the guns and swords.
4. He was sure that they would not attack. " After all, what could his mighty nation of warriors have to fear here, within the walls of their great city?

"Ican't let them into the city" said Moctezuma. "My men will take care of them" and with that, he sent for bravest warriors to drive them away.

1. "he believed that cortes was quetzaloatl himself to take the thrown."

2. "he thought that even if he was a threat he could not match his large army."

3. "it took place in the same year predicted that quetzaloatl was to return."

4. "he thought that the metal and giant deer able to be riden were a sign from above."

I think that if moctezuma believed his chiefs that moctezuma would not like to have a threat to his land near him and they would go in to absolute battle with each other and with moctezuma's stong and large army vs. cortez and his men with guns and metal armor and very much blood would be spilt.

4 reasons why Moctezuma welcomed the strangers

1 "After all, what could his mighty nation of warriors have to fear here, within the walls of their great city?" on pg. 365
2 "Quetzalcoatl has appeared!"
3 "He has come back to reclaim his throne!"
4 "It was happening just as the ancient prophecy had foretold!"

Different Perspective:
"We will not take these itruders words!" said Moctezuma to his me. "we will take them to war, hurt them, plunge them with fear, but nothing will bring us and our territory down! As for now we shall watch their every move, and at one idea they think is clever. Boom! We will know about them and get in place! Be on guard, mad the boats, and watch them with all of your eyes!"

1.He thought that Cortes was his god returning.
2.He did not think that a small group of men could threaten his mighty nation.
3.That was the year that his god was supposed to return so he thought that Cortes could fix things.
4.He had to make everyone feel safe again from all of the natural disasters that kept happening so he tried to shove some of the responsibility back onto the god's (Cortes) shoulder. This would make him seem less responsible for everything going bad.

"My lord Moctezuma orders that you leave right away." Declared the messengers. "Or what, will you and your little friend attack my army?" Demanded Cortes. "No, but they will." And for the first time Cortes took a look around and saw the thousands of warriors camoflouged in the bushes. "I do not care how many men you have, you are only savages and tomorrow we will meet you in battle and we will see who is the stronger warrior, my people, or your people." Cortes then skulked away to prepare for war while the messenger informed moctezuma of the coming battle, together they began to strategize how beat to defeat the Spaniards.
The next day, Moctezuma woke up to the sound of spears clanking and men dying. It seemed that the Spaniards had tried to ambush the Aztecs but had met the night guards. Soon the whole army had heard the war going on and joined the other Aztecs in routing the adventurers back to Cuba. Just as Cortes was struggling to rally his scattered troops, Moctezuma rushed out screaming his battle cry and hurled his jade inlade spear straight into Cortes heart and almost imeadiatly after slammed the hilt of his club into the Spaniard, killing him instantly. After Cortes died, the Cubans lost the will to fight and retreated to their boat, which had been set alight by and Aztec lord. Not long after, the sailors were swimming home, slowly getting picked off by the archers. With the casualties minimal, the Aztecs started to end to the wounded and moved the dead Spaniards out of the city. The Europeans never returned to the Island out of fear.

2.They predicted the day when Quetzalcoatl comes back back for his throne.
3.They saw signs like the red sky.
4.He was confused with the swords and guns.

Instead of accepting and letting Cortes and his army in as "friends", Moctazuma listens to his friends' advice and doesn't let them in.

There were many reasons why Moctezuma let the Spaniards into Tenochtitlan, the first reason it explained in the book is, “Two years before, a great tongue of fire had streaked cross the night sky.” This is made Moctezuma think there was some change about to happen with the gods. Another reason why they thought that the Spaniards were gods was because they looked different the book explained, “They have light skin and long beards” Also it says, “the gun that had sounded like deafening thunder.” This explained the cannons that the Spaniards had. Finally, it described their horses, “Their deer carry them on their backs, making them as tall as the roof of a house.”
Moctezuma was very confused; he had no idea who these people were. They could be gods, or they could be intruders. “They can’t be gods, but what if they are.” He thought. Moctezuma had made up his mind, “They were not gods. Moctezuma ordered the Aztec warriors to attack. The Aztec people crushed Cortez and his army. After less than an hour of war the Spanish fleet was depleted down to on ship. They Aztecs had saved themselves from a possible extinction, thanks to Moctezuma. Sadly the Aztecs caught a virus called small pox that wiped out half of their people.

the four reasons are

1.Moctezuma thought the the strangers could be nice.
2. he did not know what was going on
3. Moctezuma did not know any thing about the strangers with their meatl boots, sorwds, armors sheild he was not ready
4. after Moctezuma declared war the aztecs had small pox then cortes came and declamed victory and cortes killed thousands of prople.

moctezuma should of listen to his people and not of welcom the strangers with hair on there face. If i was Moctezuma i would not any noe to my village. I would build a wall with wood or stone to let no one in and have some people work to guard to entres so they will be alarmed. to alert me if i was the lord i would make some kind of bell to alert the Aztecs so the could be ready. I would have barracks to train solders and be ready to fight

1. There were signs that not everything was at rest with the gods.
2. It was the year that Quetzalcoatl was supposed to return to claim the throne that Cortes arrived.
3. He was confused because they were violent and he was sure that Quetzalcoatl was not.
4. Finally, he thought that let people try to conquer the most powerful empire.

Different Perspective;

"Moctazuma! Destroy them NOW! They bring guns and weapons and want to go to war!" said Moctazuma's chiefs. Moctazuma's face went pale with fear. He had been sure that it was their god that was supposed to come that year. Yet, the god wouldn't be so cruel. Moctazuma ordered his men to go destroy the strangers. Cortes realized that he had underestimated the Aztecs. The Aztecs destroyed every ship they brought and Cortes flead. No one ever heard of Cortes again.

4. "The gods must be looking for the unfavorably on the richest and most powerful empire in the land."

Different Perspective:

The great Aztecs overpowered the Spaniards and hung Cortez for his betrayl. Now Moctezuma is remembered as a brave and trustworthy man who cared for his men.

2.It could be a chance that they still might be the god.

3.Moctezuma was confused because of the guns and the swords.

4 reasons are:

1.Because he knew that if anything happened he had the army to kill the strangers.

2.He didnt think that the strangers meant any harm.

3.He thought that he was the king so no one can bother him.

4.he thought his army was stronger than cortes's was.

Different:Moctezuma thought that cortes was a returning god. He said that "Quetzalcoatl was back to claim his throne". If cortes comes back here he will treat us all like slaves. Messengers get the army and make the boats leave. "Moctezuma they won't listen to us they are coming". cortes you have no right being here. You need to leave. "Make them leave now", screamed Moctezuma. Get the guns shoot the boats make them sink and die slowly and painfully. He will not get his throne back because im the god here.

1. if Moctazuma had made a different dicion on cortes coming on his land the Aztec warriors would have slaughtered the spainiards and advanced in technology because they wouldve taken the guns and cannons and through time they would proggress in power but in 3039 they would have taken over the earth, mars, jupiter, and china

Moctezuma choose to welcome the expoler and his crew because:
1. ""Moctezuma decided to welcome the strangers. After all, what could his mighty nation of warriors have to fear here, within the walls of their great city?"
2. "Quetzalcoatl has appeared! he thought. He has come to reclaim his throne!" Page 369.
3. "Long ago, according to legend, Quetzalcoatl, the great god of learning and creation, had sailed east on a raft of serpents to a mysterious land across the ocean. But he had promised to come back, and this was the predicted year of his return." Page 369.

"Do not return in the morning, were they will be awaiting in the morning for warfare. We will head inland, away from these strange metal men. The gods will protect the temple. Now we must flea, before they find us, tramping through our lands with their violent weapons."

2."Should he attack them, or treat them as guests? he treated them as guests."
3.He Thought Hernan Cortes was his god
4.He thought that the 'unatural happenings' were signs that his god Quetzalcoatl was coming to reclaim his throne

As the officers were telling Moctezuma what happend, the entire Aztec army was getting ready to go to war. they threw torches at the boats as they were trying to land. Cortes was burned to death by the Aztecs.

Youtube Video Ideas said...

1. "He welcomed them because he thought Cortez was a god."

2. "We bring these gifts from your servant Moctezuma. said the messenger"

3. "It was a coincidence that in the year the Spaniards arived a god named Quetzalcoatl was suppose to take back the throne."

4. He came up with the idea that if he gave a large amount of gifts that Cortez would go away but instead he kidnapped Moctezuma.

(This I looked up off the internet on Tuesday night)

If Moctezuma had treated them as enemies he would have change Mexico forever. Let’s say that he invited them into the city but had an ambush party waiting. He could have trapped them inside the city and killed them all. Then he could send more “gifts” and destroy their ships, taking back the gold and jewels. After that the Aztecs city would still be standing today or destroyed by time. But there would still be many Aztecs deaths from both the fight and the diseases the Spaniards brought. Also they might have become really powerful and probably change the US and Mexico. Here is what Moctezuma might say to Cortez. “You invaders think you can attack and beat the Aztec empire? Do you know how much pain I can bring to you and you men? says Moctezuma. No! We meant no harm to you and your empire! We are just explorers! said Cortez. I will not trust someone as low as yourself you and your men will die painfully!

1. All of the Aztecs thought that this was the predicted year that Quetzalcoatl the "Serpent God" was coming back to retake the throne.

2. Moctezuma knew that something was going wrong with the gods, becuase the marsh that surrounded Tenochtitlan boiled up and dissapeared.

3.He thought the the metal and the giant deer were from above.

4. He was confused becuase they were not viotent

"Hide in the bushes" said Moctezuma.Right when the spainards touched foot on the Aztec ground. They knew something was fishy with they aztecs. The aztects waited until the Spainards were in front of the Aztec warriors. Then the aztecs attacked the Spainards from the back and killed all of the Spainards.

The End
