Cats and the cradle

In the song the cats and the cradle it shows how the dad doesn't take the time to spend time with his son. The boy asks his dad “When are you coming home dad” the dad says “ I don't know but we will have fun then”. Then when the dad retires and he realizes he wasted too much time and his boy has a job with kids, and he doesn't have time to meet with his dad. With all of his kids sick with the flu and a big busy job. Its very sad to see that a dad wasted the time with his kid and he wasn't even there when the kid started talking. The moral of the story is spend time with the people you love will you can.

Time has been Wasted
by: Dimitri M. #27

I can prove that one of the main themes in the Cats in the Cradle song is time, because the kid was growing so fast that the dad said, “he was talkin fore i knew it.” In the beginning it says When are you coming home dad, but in the end it says when are you coming home son. Next the song says the son was a doctor and he was working with kids that had the flu, and the dad said he really grew up like him. The dad said that he didn't have time to play catch with him, now the dad says when are coming home son. My teacher mr. Africano has said, “ A lot of dads have no time to play with their children”

Cats In The Cradle
Today I listened to a song called Cats In The Cradle, and it is a song filled with much meaning. Harry Chaplin is a man that is a great singer and wasted his time with his son. He was not able to see his son walk and talk. For his 10th birthday the son got a baseball and his said, “Can you teach me to throw?” Then Harry said, “Not today son, I have a lot to do.” Soon enough the son was in college and when Harry asked to talk to his son, but all that his son wanted was Harry’s car keys. Then once again Harry called his son when he had a family and asked if they could talk with each other. The son he would love to, if he could find the time. As Harry said in his song “As I hung up the phone it occurred to me, he had grown up just like me, my boy was just like me”. I love how the song goes from his son asking when they could play and Harry always saying no to Harry asking if they could talk and his son always saying no. I enjoyed this song so much and it has a deep meaning that even kids understand.

The song Cats in the Cradle tells us what the son and the dad misses out on seeing each other, playing with each other, and talking to each other. It all starts out with a son that just learned how to walk but his dad did not see him because he was going to pay his bills and has plane to catch and this pattern happens when he was 10 years old. Until when the son got out of college the dad just notices all the fun he was missing when his son was a kid and he congratulates him but the son just wanted his car key. Then one day his dad wanted to talk to him but his son was too busy and then the dad notices one wish that his son had when he was a kid that the son was just like his dad and that's what made the dad very happy. This is why this song is so beautiful when you hear it so remember to talk to your son when you get the chance.

The Cats in the Cradle
#3 10/31/14

In the song the Cats in the Cradle the dad has a boy who is constantly saying that he would grow up just like him. The dad just ignored the kid and decided that his work was more important than his own child and never spent time with him. When the dad gets older he realized that he wanted to spend time with him, by then the kid is grown up in college is now too busy to spend time with his dad. Then the dad realized that he turned out just like him; never able to spend time with him. Then the dad realized that he had been ignoring his son like this for a long time and now he feels what it is like.

‘’Cats in the Cradle’’
In the song ‘’Cats in the Cradle’’ the artist expresses literature that tells a story of a child growing up. This song represents a child progressing through life to be just like the dad. The Dad does not have very much time to hangout or teach the kid to play sports when he is growing up. After a while the circumstances switch, now the son can’t spend time or does not want to spend time with his dad. For example the dad asks, ‘’ Can you sit for a while, but the kid says I would rather have the car keys.’’ Over the course of three minutes and forty-four seconds of literature filtering through your ears you here and envision a child being born to progressing through life and having kids. Finally the dad suddenly realizes that the son has turned out just like him and he should've spent all the time he had with his son. The moral of the song is to spend the time you have with the ones you love.

In the song “Cats in the Cradle” the singer shows how the dad and the son didn’t make any time for each other. As the kid was growing up the dad didn’t have time to play or hangout. “Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let’s play, not today I got a lot to do.” But, when the boy was an adult he did not have time. “ What I’d really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys.” Then, when the dad has retired and the son has moved away I think that they could remember all the fun they could"ve had. Those are all the reasons why Harry Chapin wrote that song beautifully.

In the cats in the cradle the song expresses on how the dad realizes he spent too much time on work and didn’t enjoy the time he had with his son. In the beginning the son asks if his dad could teach him how to throw ball and the dad says “ Not today i have a lot of work to do.” The sad part is that the time the dad wasted was very precious because one day or another his son will grow up and the father ruined that precious time on work. In the beginning the son says I am going to be like you dad. The son is eventually true to his word because at the end of the song the dad calls his son and asks if his son could talk and the son says “I’d love to dad, if i can find the time you see my new job’s a hassle and the kids have the flu.”This proves that the time only lasts for so long and the father didn’t enjoy that time. This is a beautiful song with so many emotions and it tells a wonderful story.
