Write one paragraph connecting the two resources to one central theme. Include in your paragraph a topic sentence that clearly states what the central theme is that you have identified. Make sure that you include three forms of evidence to back up your topic sentence concerning the central theme. Finally, include a conclusion that restates your analysis of the central theme.

The Challenge
The theme in our story, The Challenge, is not boast. Jose learns this lesson after challenging his crush to a game of racquet ball even when he doesn’t know how to play. “Jose boasts to be a winning racquetball player” He gets hammered. “She wins 21 to 0” he tried to get her attention by boasting, but in the end we can see he just made a fool out of himself. “Jose misses, drops his racquet, and gets hit by another one of Estela’s stinging shots.” That is why I think that the theme of The Challenge is not to boast.
The theme of the poem “You Can if You Think You Can” is Believe in yourself. The writer of the poem is trying to tell people that strength does not matter. “But soon or late, the man who wins, is the man who thinks he can.” She is also trying to tell us that you must be prepared to win and think that you will win, to actually win. “You’ve got to be sure of yourself, before you can ever win a prize.” She also tells us how to believe in yourself, and how to try and win. “Success begins in a fellow’s will, it’s all in class of mind” That is why I think that the theme of the poem is believe in yourself.

You can if You Think you can
You can do anything you can imagine so never, ever, doubt yourself. In the story, The Challenge Jose (the boy in the story) wants to get the attention of a new girl at school. They both have the theme courage somewhere in the story.
If you feel you can do something you can and there is no doubt about it. In the story, Jose tried many, many times but he just couldn’t do it then he found out she liked racquetball. Jose new he could impress her the next time and then he did. Jose used courage and he believed he could do it and he did. That story proves that you could do anything you think you can do.

You can if you think you can
In the story, The Challenge, and the poem “You Can If You Think You Can” both connect to the same central theme. Their central theme is courage because in the story the challenge, Jose starts racquetball just for this girl even though he knows nothing about it and in the poem You Can If You Think You Can it says, “If you think you are beaten, you are, if you think you dare not, you don’t, if you like to win, but you think you can’t, it’s almost certain you won’t if you think your lose, you’re lost for out in the world we find, success begins with a fellows will it’s all in the state of mind if you are out casted you are you’ve got to think high to rise, you’ve got to be sure of yourself before you can’t even win a prize life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster man but soon or late the man who wins, is the man who thinks he can.” And when it says, “Is the man who thinks he can” uses courage.

Confidence
Confidence was a theme I chose for connecting two resources a poem “You Can If You Think You Can”, and a Story The challenge. In the story The Challenge one of the main character shows confidence by trying to get a girls attention .For example “ José boats that he is a winning racket ball player and challenges Estela to a game”. He tries to show that he is a good athlete and is trying to flirt with her. In the poem “You Can If You Think You Can” it explains that if you have confidence you will succeed and if you don’t have confidence you will not fail but you will not have tried. For example “ if you think you are beaten you are”. This is showing if you think it will happen. In conclusion the theme confidence fits with the poem and story because one uses it as an example and one has a character that shows it.

Courage
Courage is a property that helps people do things. Like when Jose tries to challenge a pro at racket ball. The moral of the challenge is never lie. “You can if you think you can” is a pome with lots of interesting sentences “You can ever win a prize” “If you dare not you don’t”. “when Jose scrapes his chin in an accident he hopes Estela will take petty on him” “Estela who’s nick name is the stinger” “Freddie loans him a racket show him how to hold it and explains the rules of the game” “Jose finds it difficult” “Joes realizes that she is an expert player” these are quotes from the challenge. Estela gets a tone of points and beats Joes 21-0.
