Over the past few weeks we have been learning how to apply our skills. In the following prompts I want you to apply your learning: In Close reading. In writing to a prompt. In technology. In presentation of Product (your paragraph). Read the information, listen to the song, and respond to the prompt. Then cut and paste your answer into the blog. Mr. A How do you eat an Elephant? Growing up can be hard. Citing our resources...

Choose two to four quotes from the two stories we read this week that will support the statement that growing up is hard. Make sure you copy them exactly the way they are in the literature. The quotes should support the statement that growing up is hard.

Support Your Statements with Textual Evidence....

Grade Level Writing Sample Lyrics: Where do the children play? Cat Stevens Poem: Where the sidewalk ends, Shel Silverstien Question: What is the main theme of the three resources above and how do they connect? Directions: Write a multi-paragraph essay answering the question above. •Review with your team what themes the poem and the song address o Research them on Wikipedia or on another internet site. •Create a thinking map that will help you outline your thoughts. •Paragraph 1: identify the main theme in the three different resources you were given o Make sure you discuss the article, the poem and the song. • Paragraph 2: use examples and quotes as to how the resources connect Once you have written an acceptable, edited sample of your work post it on the blog. Write one paragraph connecting the two resources to one central theme. Include in your paragraph a topic sentence that clearly states what the central theme is that you have identified. Make sure that you include three forms of evidence to back up your topic sentence concerning the central theme. Finally, include a conclusion that restates your analysis of the central theme.

Tuck Everlasting

We have just completed the novel Tuck Everlasting. It was wonderful to read this story with you. We talked about so many things and ideas. We thought on immortality and living life with significance. I thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent.

I have collected poems on the last day of the novel experience and they are wonderful. Class of 2012 it is now your turn.

Write a poem that in some way connects to the story or to one of the themes we discussed. Once you are done cut and paste your work into the blog. I look forward to reading your expressions related to the story Tuck Everlasting.
