The song “Cats in the Cradle” by Harry Chapin is the story of a son who grew up to be just like his dad. The story begins by the father telling us in verse one that he had brushed his son off because “there were planes to catch and bills to pay.” The chorus then shows us how this attitude continues, where the son is craving attention from his father and the father continues his promise of “soon.” This story goes on as the boy continues to ask for time from his father, and the response is always the same: “I don’t know when, but we’ll get together then, son.” The story turns, however, about midway through the song, when the father has grown older and the boy is now an adult. The father is now in the shoes of wanting more time to spend with his son, and it is now the son who offers the chorus as his reply. The son, having had his father as his model, has become just like him. In a verse near the end of the song, the retired father requests a visit from his son, and the son replies with “I’d love to Dad, if I can find the time, you see my job’s a hassle and the kids have the flu, but it’s sure nice talking to you, Dad.” The song ends with the chorus turning from the focus of the dad to the focus of the son, and we can see clearly that this son has grown to be exactly like his father.

Over the years I have listened to the song Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin many times, and the words, themes and music of the song have always affected me deeply. For example, the theme of time is portrayed in the life of a father and son. The song begins with the birth of his son “my child arrived just the other day,” and as the first stanza of the song ends the young boy is already walking and talking. This observation of time continues in the third and fifth stanzas of the song where the boy is growing up learning how to throw a ball and going off to college. The father in the song does not seem to realize that time has passed very quickly. Finally, as the song winds down the father is retired and his son is very busy, but he desperately wants to see his son “I’d like to see you if you don’t mind.” Unfortunately, his son has no time for him. The song ends with two lives, a father and a son that did not take the time to develop a deeper relationship. As we can see, I believe Harry Chapin, the author of this song wanted us to understand that time is a very special thing and should not be wasted.

The beautiful song called “The Cat in the Cradle”, by Harry Chapin is about a boy`s father influencing his son without knowing. The father missed all the main events that his boy did like when he learned how to speak and walk. In the first couple stanzas, the boy asked when his father when he was coming home. The father never made time for him. Over the years, the son started acting like his father by ignoring him. His father realized he had made a big mistake in ignoring his only son. His son didn't even care anymore when his father congratulated him on graduating college. He just said “Can I have the car keys.” My father would always make time for me even if it was just to play a sport outside. Every day my father would play with me, even if he was in the middle of doing something, and he would do it with compassion and love. I believe that the artist, Harry Chapin, wanted us to value time, not to waste it. This song is a very well written, but saddening song about the daily life of a son and his father.

The song “Cats in the Cradle” the boy wanted to be like him and at the end of the song his son when he was his age. This is how i think they were just alike and the son was just like his dad.had grown up just like me, and he was just like me.” The dad never knew even how the boy figured out how to talk or walk. The son always wanted to be like his dad and in 30 years he was just like his dad. The dad never knew when the boy would come home but he came and the dad realized he had spent too much time trying to be with his son. The son didn’t have time for his dad either because his kids had the flu and had to get them better. All of these things are what his dad did when he was younger. His dad probably acted exactly like him when he was as old as him.

Cats in the Cradle

In the song Cats in the Cradle we can prove the theme of time because It starts out with “My child arrived just the other day, He came to the world in the usual way.” He is trying to say that dads every day don’t make a lot of time for their children. “He learned to walk while I was away, and he was talkin’ ‘fore I knew it” He didn’t even know that his son was talking. The boy wanted to spend time with his dad so they said, “When you comin’ home dad? I don’t know when, but we’ll get together then son, You know we’ll have a good time then.” Also as the song went on, the son grew older. The next stanza said, “My son turned ten just the other day.” “We’ll, he came home from college just the other day.” The dad wanted to spend time with him but he just wanted the car keys. When his son moves away and he is retired, he called him. “I said I’d like to see you if you don’t mind, He said, I’d love to, dad, if I can find the time. You see my new job’s a hassle and the kids have the flu.” All this time the son wanted to be like his dad, and now he finally is. The theme of time is very obvious in the song, Cats in the Cradle.

Cats in the Cradle

From “Cats in the Cradle” written by Harry Chapin, it is easy to prove the son turned out just like his dad in the end. From the start of the boys life, the dad didn’t have time for him. The boy learned to walk when he was away and the boy started talking before the dad knew it. Then when the boy turned ten, the dad got a ball for his birthday. He asked his dad if he could play ball with him. “Thanks for the ball Dad, come on lets play. Can you teach me how to throw” The dad said, “Not today.” Its like the dad never had time for him. Then the boy graduates from college. The dad had retired from his work and wanted to hang out and play with the boy. Now the boy had graduated from college, and didn’t have time for his dad. The boy had turned out like his dad, and the dad got a taste of his own medicine. “Cats in the Cradle” was a very interesting song about to men who had missed each others life.

Cats in the Cradle (Time)

In the song, “Cats in the Cradle” by Harry Chapin, it is easy to see the song is about time. The dad realizes he didn’t spend enough time with his son growing up. For his son’s tenth birthday, he gave a ball to him. The son asked, “Will you teach me how to throw dad?” The dad said, “Not today I have a lot to do.” When the son finally comes out of college, he doesn’t have enough time to sit with his dad. Instead, he wants his dad’s car keys so he could drive around. They keep saying they will get together soon, but it never happens. The dad realizes that the son has grown up to be like him, without a lot of time on his hands. ‘’Cats in the Cradle’’ is a great song about time and how a son grew up to be just like his dad.

This song is about a boy who wants to be just like his dad. He always wants to do things or talk with his dad, but his dad never wants to talk because he is always busy. The son still says that he want to be like his dad though. When the son wants to play ball, the dad says he is too busy with his work. But the son still days “I’m gonna be like him”. Later, the dad has retired so he can spend more time with his son. When the son graduates college, the dad wants to talk with his son but his son is exactly like how the dad was when he had his job, so all he wants is the car keys and he doesn't even want to talk. When the son moves away to a different state and has a family, the dad calls the son but the son doesn't want to talk to him because that's his dad used to do. It is really sad because this song is true for many people because their don’t really care about what they do and they think that they don’t have time for them because of their work.

The Cats in the Cradle

The son turned out just like his Dad. In the lyrics it is saying that the Dad has no time with his son because he didn’t even know how he learned to walk or talk, before he knew it it was his son’s tenth birthday and his son asked, “Thanks for the ball Dad, come on let’s play, can you teach me to Throw?” Later on in the song, stanza three to be exact the son came home from college and his Dad congratulated him and asked if he could talk, but the son shook his head and asked for the car keys. The themes I can see in this song “The Cats in the Cradle” are time because you can see in your head time flying by, the son growing up so fast and his dad and eventually him not having time for each other. Another theme could be turning out like someone else. In conclusion, the Father and the son both missed each others lives.

It is easy to prove that there is proof of time in the cats in the cradle. First it says in the song that “He learned to walk while I was away.” Next the dad never has time for his kid so when he asked “can you teach me how to throw” the dad answer “no I got a lot to do.”In the end the son turned out just like his dad by having not enough time for his dad. That is why it is easy to prove that there is time in the song.

In the song Cats in the Cradle it shows that the boy grows up just like the dad. To prove the son says,”I’m gonna be just like you. You know i’m gonna be like you.” First the son asked,”When are you comin home?” And the dad replied,”I don’t know when.” He just never had time with his kid. Then time goes by and the son said,”Thanks for the ball,Dad,come lets play. Can you teach me to throw?” The dad replied,”Not today I got a lot to do.” Do you think the son will turn out like the dad? Well, he does and the dad asked,”Son I am proud of you, can you sit with me for a while?” Next, the boy said,”What I really like,Dad, to borrow the car keys? See you later, can I have them please?”The dad got the taste of his own medicine. From this resource Cats in the Cradle I learned that not taking time to hangout with your son he turns out just like you.

I can prove that one of the main themes in the Cats in the Cradle song is time, because the kid was growing so fast that the dad said, “he was talkin fore i knew it.” In the beginning it says When are you coming home dad, but in the end it says when are you coming home son. Next the song says the son was a doctor and he was working with kids that had the flu, and the dad said he really grew up like him. The dad said that he didn’t have time to play catch with him, now the dad says when are coming home son. My teacher mr. Africano has said, “ A lot of dads have no time to play with their children”

Cats in the Cradle #35
In the song Cats in the Cradle I can prove both how he is just like his dad and how time goes so fast. When he says “he learned to walk while I was away” he is saying he missed the important time of teaching or helping him to achieve walking. He also refers to “he was talking before I knew it” where he is stating he was not paying attention to his son talking until he realized that he was discussing things with him. The son starts realizing that his dad is not around “ when you coming home dad, we can have a good time then” he says this to keep himself from believing that he is sad that his dad is not there. The sons tenth birthday comes and his dad gives him a ball but, the dad could not stay to throw the ball he did not have time.

The son always says “he wants to be just like his dad”But, as you can see in my first paragraph the dad was always ignoring his son. If the son was just like the dad he would ignore his dad “can I borrow the car keys”. So I believe that the dad wrote this song because he finally felt what it is like to be ignored “when you coming home son”.

In the song Cats in the Cradle I can tell that he boy turns out like his dad. First, the dad always had "planes to catch and bills to pay."Also they were always saying to each other “ can you sit down and talk for a while” but the father said he was always too busy and know his son does the same to his father. Next, I can prove that he turns out like his father because the boy never has enough time to be with dad.Lastly, I can prove that the boy turns out like his father because the son always said “ That was okay if he didn't have time. Soon enough he turned out like his dad and kinda ignored him when he called and said “ i'm too busy. It connects to my life sometimes when my dad is too busy to throw a football outside for 20min.

Hector #13 The theme of this song is time. The moral is you should always have time for someone you're really love or care about. In the song the father never had time to play or have fun with his child. It was like if the poor child didnt even have a father. Come on the child learned to talk by himself. But at the end the father got to taste how it felt like. When the son graduated. The son left and he never had time for his father.

Cats in the Cradle essay

In The Cats in the Cradle the son grew up just like the dad. The reason of this is because
they’re both too busy for each other. In the first stanza, the dad was too busy to see his own son’s birth and his first word because he was paying bills and catching planes. In the third stanza, the dad was too busy to teach the son how throw a ball. It is very surprising that the dad was too busy for the son for an entire decade.

in the fifth stanza, the son finished college and the roles switched (the son was too busy for the dad). the dad said to the son after he graduated college, “ Son, I’m proud of you, can you sit for a while?” but the son just said, “What I’d really like, dad, is if you’d give me the car keys, can you hand them over please?”. In the seventh stanza, the dad was long since retired, he called up the son and asked if he’d come over, but the son was too busy. It’s funny that all of a sudden it went from the dad denying the son to the son denying the dad. This isn’t happening to me, and I am very glad it isn’t.

The song Cats in the Cradle tells us what the son and the dad misses out on seeing each other, playing with each other, and talking to each other. It all starts out with a son that just learned how to walk but his dad didn’t see him because he was going to pay his bills and has plane to catch and this pattern happens when he was 10 years old. Until when the son got out of college the dad just notices all the fun he was missing when his son was a kid and he congratulates him but the son just wanted his car key. Then one day his dad wanted to talk to him but his son was too busy and then the dad notices one wish that his son had when he was a kid that the son was just like his dad and thats what made the dad very happy. This is why this song is so beautiful when you hear it so remember to talk to your son when you get the chance.

In the cats in the cradle the song expresses on how the dad realizes he spent too much time on work and didn’t enjoy the time he had with his son. In the beginning the son asks if his dad could teach him how to throw ball and the dad says “ Not today i have a lot of work to do.” The sad part is that the time the dad wasted was very precious because one day or another his son will grow up and the father ruined that precious time on work. In the beginning the son says I am going to be like you dad. The son is eventually true to his word because at the end of the song the dad calls his son and asks if his son could talk and the son says “I’d love to dad, if i can find the time you see my new job’s a hassle and the kids have the flu.”This proves that the time only lasts for so long and the father didn’t enjoy that time. In the song ‘’Cats in the Cradle’’ the artist expresses literature that tells a story of a child growing up. This song represents a child progressing through life to be just like the dad. The Dad does not have very much time to hangout or teach the kid to play sports when he is growing up. After a while the circumstances switch, now the son can’t spend time or does not want to spend time with his dad. For example the dad asks, ‘’ Can you sit for a while, but the kid says I would rather have the car keys.’’ Over the course of three minutes and forty-four seconds of literature filtering through your ears you here and envision a child being born to progressing through life and having kids. Finally the dad suddenly realizes that the son has turned out just like him and he should’ve spent all the time he had with his son. The moral of the song is to spend the time you have with the ones you love.

In the song the cats and the cradle it shows how the dad doesn't take the time to spend time with his son. The boy asks his dad “When are you coming home dad” the dad says “ I don't know but we will have fun then”. Then when the dad retires and he realizes he wasted too much time and his boy has a job with kids, and he doesn't have time to meet with his dad. With all of his kids sick with the flu and a big busy job. Its very sad to see that a dad wasted the time with his kid and he wasn't even there when the kid started talking. The moral of the story is spend time with the people you love will you can.

Cats In The Cradle
Today I listened to a song called Cats In The Cradle, and it is a song filled with much meaning. Harry Chapin is a man that is a great singer and wasted his time with his son. He was not able to see his son walk and talk. For his 10th birthday the son got a baseball and his said, “Can you teach me to throw?” Then Harry said, “Not today son, I have a lot to do.” Soon enough the son was in college and when Harry asked to talk to his son, but all that his son wanted was Harry’s car keys. Then once again Harry called his son when he had a family and asked if they could talk with each other. The son he would love to, if he could find the time. As Harry said in his song “As I hung up the phone it occurred to me, he had grown up just like me, my boy was just like me”. I love how the song goes from his son asking when they could play and Harry always saying no to Harry asking if they could talk and his son always saying no. I enjoyed this song so much and it has a deep meaning that even kids understand.

There is a line were where the boy comes and visits. “Son, im proud of you, can you sit for a while? said the dad. ‘’What i would really like is, is to borrow the car keys.’’ ‘’Can i have them please? said the son. It was kind of ironic because at first the dad was busy and the kid was asking him for his time. Then the kid was too busy and the dad was asking for his time. That is how it shows a son growing up to be like his father.
